// long time to blog! and it's not like i've ran out of whatnots to tell, i'm just particularly "busy" tryna make a "bare" living out of a job i'm still "struggling" to love while watching my health decline due to commuter's stress. lol i dunno.

so many people are asking, which is better of the two? here's my two cents on the pros and cons of each, being someone who has used both phones. >:D

SGYDuos key specs:

- dual sim (dual stand-by)

- 800MHZ processor

- 1300mAH li-ion battery

- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

- 240x320, 3.14in, ~127ppi

- 3.15MP camera

- comes in black/white with a plastic finish

- price range (Php): 7,000-8,000

MDM key specs:

- dual sim (dual stand-by)

- 600MHZ processor

- 1800mAH li-ion battery

- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

- 320x480, 3.2in, ~180ppi

- 3.15MP camera, with LED flash

- comes in black, casing is plastic with some sort of rubbery finish for the back cover. Gorilla glass, scratchproof, waterproof, dustproof. haha

- prince (Php): 9,000

Comparison:

putting their specs side by side....

Dual Sim Capability:

- both are dual sim stand-by. it means that both sims are active but when there's an active call from one sim, the other sim temporarily loses its network connection. so while you're talking to someone from one network and you get an incoming call to the other sim, it becomes unreachable. One thing about the MDM though, if you're actively using data services (updating software or internet browsing) using 1 sim, the other sim deactivates. Meaning, it's totally turned off, no reception whatsoever. bugger right?

CPU

- higher MHZ is better of course (on single-cored phones at least), this means that SGYDuos is expected to run faster than MDM. And it's true, while 800MHZ is still a pretty mediocre value for mobile gamers, playing experience with SGYDuos is notches better. I was able to play Tap Tap Revenge 4 flawlessly and Fruit Ninja (Puss in Boots, a relatively heavier version), but I'm just talking about the game proper. Loading takes a whole lot of time, so you gotta be patient with it. But at 800MHZ, i believe you're not exactly supposed to load it bigtime. at 600MHZ, playing Tap Tap is a pain with all the lags. Fruit Ninja on the other hand works pretty decently though. And ever wondered if you could load it with Temple Run? DON'T BOTHER. it'll break. i tried it on SGYDuos and by the time i get to the coins collection part, the screen goes berserk and i lose running off a cliff. so there, the best you could probably load your duos are small productivity apps and light games. :) so there, SGYDuos wins this cat

Battery Life

- battery... same principle, higher mAH means longer battery life. and well, MDM wins this with a 500 point difference. that means you can talk more, play more and browse more with the MDM. :) But just to give you something to imagine, at 1300MHZ, SGYDuos runs 2 days with regular use, meaning frequent texting and probably an hour worth of calls. playing apps will reduce battery life significantly. when i got hooked to playing fruit ninja, my battery didn't last a day. and this, of course isn't something i got to try out with MDM since i can't even last a minute playing without complaining about its sluggishness. haha but then, the theory still holds. MDM has a longer battery life... i just hope they paired it with a more powerful CPU.

OS

- Gingerbread... not exactly the newest out there but it's still pretty cool. Having the same OS, MDM and SGYDuos pretty much share the same interface and set of menus. Both non upgradeable, so yeah.

Screen Resolution

- i'll give this one to MDM. with ~180ppi, the screen is a marvelous treat. It makes SGYDuos looks cheap. It isn't the crispiest screen to boot but it's still notches better than SGYDuos

Camera

- for vanity freaks out there, you're gonna have a hard time taking pictures of yourself using the SGYDuos simply because it doesn't have a dedicated camera key. That, and you can't tap anywhere on the screen to snap a photo too (just like other camera-button-less phones), you have to click a specific button on the screen to capture a shot. It's pretty annoying. Plus, picture quality is way off for 3.15MP. It has panorama shooting mode though but i'm already too disappointed with the quality to even bother with it.

The MDM on the other hand has a dedicated camera key (hurray!), it has LED flash which you can also use as a flashlight using the Torchlight app on the menu, and the picture quality is great for 3.15MP. lots of effects too and another cool thing is that you can shoot videos with effects on it. >:D One thing though, the camera key is kinda hard to press. haha

Sound Quality:

i dunno the figures but MDM has a better sound quality both on the earphones and built-in speaker. It has a better volume compared to SGYDuos. hehe

Overall, here's what I liked and hated on each phone:

Samsung Galaxy Y Duos:
Likes:

- form and build

- fast processor

- you can attach contact numbers via SMS

- capable of running casual games decently! >:D

Dislikes:

- ugly picture quality

- no dedicated camera key

- only threaded messages view. no traditional view (inbox, sentbox, outbox, drafts...)

Motorola Defy Mini:

Likes:

- screen resolution

- good picture quality

- dedicated camera key

Dislikes:

- has traditional view but still sucks cos when you open the inbox and view a message, it still shows the threaded view! only, it scrolls to the specific message. whatta cheat haha
- no 3x4 keyboard option, only QWERTY
- no option to attach contact details as part of SMS

- slow processor. it's bearable but it's not for casual gaming.

- i understand they're trying to keep it water resistant but it's quite a hassle having to cap off the covers for the major ports like the earphone jack and charger port. really, i have small nails and i'm having a hard time removing the covers specially when i've already turned off the lights before sleeping, i can't just charge blindly! haha

- the back cover is already pretty hard to remove but yeah, i understand why. it just needs a lot of getting used to haha

- oh this is a major one and i've already consulted the service center about this: it doesn't do well with contact numbers. if your contacts are stored in this format, 0917XXXXXXX, the phone will recognize the caller, but not the texter. meaning, if he calls you... his name will register on your phone, but if he texts you, his name won't show and you'll see it as +63917XXXXXXX instead. also works vice versa! if the contact is stored as +63917XXXXXXX, it will recongnize the texter, but not the caller! whew! no software fix as of date, but i've already warned the service center to escalate it because it's a major concern. a temp solution would be to save all your contacts to your phone, and attach two numbers to it, a +639XXX and a 09XXXX. so much hassle specially if you're someone who keeps her contacts on the sim card. hay

So uhm, in the spirit of fairness, I do hope i sounded objective with each phone. I just merely highlighted my experiences with them. hahaha

a Philippine treasure: DEUTERIUM

so i read our country has a loooot, and by that i mean an inexhaustible amount, of deuterium (hydrogen gas) deposits in the Philippine deep. according to an article*, our country has the largest deuterium deposit in the whole world and our reserves are being replenished daily by mother nature by delivering currents of deuterium all the way from central america down to our trenches. this is a freaking big issue for the majority of the oil savages at the middle east, and ultimately us! we all know that our fuel resources are depleting exponentially (or maybe that's just a media propaganda so drillers remain in power to dictate oil prices? errdk), so this could be (or maybe THE ONLY) the solution to not run out of gas. i'm not sure if it's right to promote another fuel alternative, for all i know, it could complicate environmental issues further... but based on what i've read, when used as a fuel in combustion engines, deuterium's only by-product is water so that's pretty cool. its being part of the water family eliminates grave threats of toxic by-products. >8D if you haven't read about it, you can check wiki haha but basically it's an isotope of water, with one proton, and one neutron. and that neutron is responsible for making it heavy therefore making it sink deep down under the ocean. which brings it to be dubbed as "heavy hydrogen" and "heavy water" in most references.

so what do we care?

at this moment where the US and Europe are at the brink of completely losing grip of their economy, it's time for us to SHINE! Deuterium, i think it's one of the best answers to our uhm, problems. we must tap and utilize this epic resource NOW. i believe it requires some heavy technology to drill that deep down the marianas trench, but come on. haha just don't tell me that rumors are true that development rights for Philippine deuterium has been SOLD to another country.

HUGE ENERGY RESOURCE FOUND IN MARIANAS TRENCH

SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, ) – The world's largest deposit of deuterium, 
which can replace most forms of fuel in powering engines, can be found in the 
Marianas and Philippine trenches, according to a research by a local group.

Former Rep. Manasses S. Borja and Melqui Pacis, of Western International 
Corp., said the Marianas and the Philippines have a deuterium deposit 868 
miles long — 52 miles at its widest point, and 7 miles at its deepest point 
in the Marianas.

This deposit, they added, is "replenished by nature 24 hours a day" through 
the north equatorial current tidal flow which carries deuterium all the way 
from Central America.

Deuterium, a form of concentrated hydrogen, is used in the production of 
natural gas now utilized in Canada, America, Germany and Sweden, to provide 
fuel for cars, trucks and jet planes, said Pacis and Borja, who is running 
for a Precinct 2 seat in the House of Representatives.

"Deuterium can replace gasoline, (liquefied petroleum gas), (liquefied 
natural gas), Avgas, etc. in powering all types of internal combustion 
engines. It does not emit pollutants or any harmful carbon monoxide and does 
not cause any environmental problems because it is in the water family," they 
said.

They added, "Deuterium as hydrogen fuel can also be used for cooking, 
lighting, and heating, and as heavy water fuel for reactors in electric power 
generation. (Aside from the CNMI), only the Philippines can supply all the 
requirements in deuterium as hydrogen fuel and as hydrogen for food, chemical 
and metal industries worldwide for the next two centuries."

Borja and Pacis are urging the governments of the CNMI and the Philippines to 
promote the deuterium deposit to investors.

Borja and Pacis reported that prospective investors from the U.S., Japan and 
Saudi Arabia had expressed interest in the project.

"The rule of thumb investment estimates is about $200 million for every 1 
million barrels daily production capacity — a very much lower 
investment-capacity ratio than petroleum production," they said. "At 12 
million barrels per day capacity, the estimated total investment is $2.4 
billion."

kudos to BPI Salcedo Village

an example of honest banking! >:D i encashed a certain amount of money into 200-peso-bill denomination. when it was handed out to me, i didn't count it anymore because i already watched the bill counting machine as it counted the money for me. i was confident that i left with the exact amount of of 200 peso bills. >:D but when i recounted it at the office, it was lacking 1 bill. i recounted many times but i still ended up with the same number. i was very disappointed and at the verge of walking back and complaining about the missing 200 but i thought, "anong laban ko? e kanina pa ko umalis? what if sabihin nila i was doing it on purpose?" so i just let it go continued working.

but just now, an unknown number called me, and it turned out to be the teller who attended to me awhile ago, she said there was a 200 peso bill stuck at the bill counter and believing it was mine, she apologized and asked if it's okay to just deposit it at my account. yeheyyy. my 200 is back.

i'm 2 minutes early for work, beat that! >XD

God loves me so much he rewarded my waking up 15 minutes early than usual by allowing me not to arrive late for work. you see, i live at fairview and work in makati, and mondays are crazy not just for me but for the rest of the manila working class. i usually wake up at 6:15 (my regular working sched is at 8:30) and usually on mondays, i arrive at the office at 9am, so late grarr. so this morning i tried to break the habit by waking up 15 minutes early in hopes of arriving a bit early as well. note that for an ultra lazy slacker like me, waking up 15 minutes earlier than usual is a big big struggle. believe me huhu. >XP

over the weeks, i realized that MRT-ikot fx's are scarce come 6:45 so i always opt to ride the jeepney. the bad thing about it is that they drop you off at the bridge under the q.ave flyover which is so hassle cos it includes lots of walking to reach the station grarrr (whereas fx's drop you off at McDo q.ave which is much convenient but seeing that they're pretty rare, i don't wanna waste time waiting for em). Although there are some jeepneys, when stuck in u-turn traffic, that drop people off at the high way so they don't have to walk that much compared to the usual drop off area. i think it's illegal, but it's much faster and whenever i get the chance, i try to get off there. from there, people still have to cross the bridge but it's much nearer naman na. plus, i don't really cross the bridge, i get out using the hole at the metal fence some cool dude created. it has been there for years i guess, and well, it's useful for me and many others who are too lazy to cross the bridge. haha sorry, not a good example no?

monday morning rush hours at MRT is really really horrible, and the people are really in barbaric mode, even the girls. i have to endure 2 painstaking lines in order to get to the train. first is the line to get in the station which usually snakes up to the streets of edsa, and then the line at the platform to get in the train. there are unfortunate times when

 when i get off at ayala, depending on the time, 2 more long lines are waiting for me, the line of people getting down and out the station, and the line of people at the ayala-washington jeepney terminal. i didn't include the line at the turnstiles to get out of the station cos it's pretty smooth flowing naman hehe.

ambagal ng oras grarrr

I don't understand most of the things they make me do here, but I'm hopeful that one day I'll get used to it all and uhm, yeah, learn everyting. They're right, the deadly jitters will soon fade away, but in my case, not completely. HAHA I'm like still in the process of discovering my worth as a "programmer". Most of the time, I think about quitting and studying multimedia/graphic arts instead ...and it doesn't sound so bad! in fact it excites me. Maybe it's the thought of studying something you know you'll actually like and improve a hell lot on that makes me so enthusiastic about it.

Maybe one day, when I've gathered enough guts and money to pursue that which I love, I'll venture into the arts department wholly. When I was in LB, it took me 3 years to realize I didn't like chemical engineering so at that time, everything else sounded better. Which is probably why I decided to take computer science. First it's not chem. eng, and next... well IT'S NOT CHEM ENG!!! haha Besides two of my housemates were CS studs so that probably influenced me. And yknow that time, I was like at a phase where I thought chem. eng was the worst (and hardest) course ever so anything which is not it, is probably tolerable. Even agriculture and veterinary medicine sounded better and more likeable to me.

long story short, it took me a looooooot of freaking time (and money) to realize what my real strengths are, and up to now, i'm not doing anything about it.

Time seems to be running so slow. I want to go home badly. Like BADLY. The weather is freaking bad outside, and we were just notified that we could leave early cos of the weather (undertime) but of course that's bawas sweldo so, really, no thanks. >:S I'll be in until 6pm cos I was late! Freaking rain…
