A couple of logos

Tilde's Peanut Butter
For my auntie's small peanut butter business. Supposed to be turned to stickers but never got the time to seek suppliers out. IT'S THE BEST PEANUT BUTTER EVER. I swear it's my favorite peanut butter to date, I'm not even trying to sell it okay haha

You should try it :D You can order from me btw but it won't have a logo hehe

Glacial Fire Samoyeds
One of my friends commissioned me to create a logo for his kennel. When it was finished he shared it on facebook and I got commissioned to do another by a common friend! Yeyy! Here's the 'another' haha Referrals are heaven sent!

Final

Variations

Because of this project I learned how to 1) do the text wrap thingy effect where you get the text to fill the spaces inside a shape whatever. I used it to arrange the letters on the first three variations. Sucks I didn't bookmark the tutorial, I already forgot how do to it. I think it's type > convert to smart object > warp? Okay.

Another technical learning is 2) arranging text on a circle. The 'Samoyed' text on the 4th image is quite a bummer to place! The tutorial I got was so confusing and I didn't know how to describe my problem to google.. uhm how to arrange text on a circle? Whatever, I got it to work but... hm let me remember how. Circle > type > select type layer > select direct selection tool > hover on the text path until the pointer shows a left-right arrow > arrange. Haha hope it's right.

On another note, I'm starting on a coloring book project! It's kindof a sequel to my last children's book project but this time it's gonna be just lines. duh. It may sound easy to just remove the colors and add strokes but sadly it's not. Since I'm bad at layering and preserving outlines, I have to retrace the entire thing and add a couple more elements to match the client's preferred theme. :) I'm excited cos I've never done a coloring book. I've managed to figure out a process in my head, but I'm sure google has more efficient ways to teach me. :)

I seriously need more design jobs, it's the only thing keeping my creativity from rusting out haha.

By the way, Super Labandera is turning into a plushie! Yeyy!

Si Aiyah at ang Magic ng mga Bituin

the mommy-author launching her book <3
I've been meaning to blog about my latest completed children's book project, after making sure it's really finished haha, So here it is! The book is meant to be given away as souvenirs for my client's daughter's christening, and also for distribution for an outreach program they're conducting this June. :)

Being part of this project is a humbling experience. I wanted it to turn out as beautiful as i can because it's very special to the client.

one of my favorites <3
I struggled a lot with that drawing you know! But it also turned out to be one of my favorite illustrations for this project. I almost wanted to replace it with a simpler version, but decided against it because this is the best one I drafted for this particular page. also because I suck at human posture that i wanted to challenge myself. lol Thank you google for helping me out!

happy family <3
The entire project took a month to finish, with me having to work on pencil drafts over the weekdays, and digitizing them during weekends. I made a total of 11 illustrations for this. :)

If you're interested in my illustrations, I'm open for commissioned work! Feel free to inquire using the Contact form or drop me a line at hello@theblahger.com. I do illustrations and layout design, and could work on children's books, yearbooks, posters, flyers, invitations, etc. :) I have a portfolio over at behance too! :D

Titus Pens iDoodle Contest 2013

happened July 1, 2013 at SM Marikina Cyberzone

i've been meaning to blog about this awesome event but i never had the time haha. at least ngayon meron na! thanks to SONA, i had to take the day off because of the terrible traffic. thankfully, it's a good time to finally catch up with my pending blog posts! yeyy!!

so i learned about this doodle contest via my friend's mailing list. i took jeckie with me to the contest, and together we went on a cool adventure to SM Marikina. lol. it was a short trip, we used the LRT at Gateway, Cubao. and well, hanep lang! elibs na elibs kami sa LRT dun! ang ganda! being regular MRT passengers, riding this LRT for the first time was very refreshing.

cool looking station haha

it was so spacious inside the train. tingnan nyo naman! haaayyy when will MRT be like this? >XD

anyway, on to the event! there were so many artists who came, most of them looking like students hehe. honestly it was a bit cramped, it was hard trying to move around. the seats are so packed together because of the volume of the people who came.

nevertheless, i enjoyed it! 3 hours of nonstop doodling using their awesome oil-gel ball point pens and i was able to come up with this! and i insist on the many shots. haha

i didn't win but it was such an amazing experience. it's kindof the first ever art contest i joined outside of school (if i remember correctly), and i had no regrets. plus, i discovered that the pens they provided were so freaking awesome. believe me when i say this, i have a knack for pens and Titus fine oil-gel ballpens are the greatest if you're into ballpen art. just look at the quality! the colors are all sharp and vibrant and it's so different from the typical panda ballpens. you can trace a pencil line art with em and the ink won't run. how awesome is that. it's the type of ballpen that will make you want to reaaaaally draw your balls out. >XD

oh, before i forget, the grand winner! >XD

congrats! those are frkn crazy details! amazing! >XO the other winners really kicked major ass as well. it was very inspiring having to see so much talent in one place!

yeheyy! happy that i took home lots of these!

thank you Titus Pens, for this wonderful experience! for the free shirt, name tag, pencil, eraser, envelope, folder, and of course the glorious pens! >XD

FEU Diliman Batch 2012 Yearbook Layout

FEU Diliman Batch 2012 Yearbook

late post! my first and proudest published work yet! published in a sense that it was printed, distributed and sold. hehe anyway, in fear that i may be violating any creative commons rights here, if in case you find any of your work/s visible in this project, please note that i inserted a general acknowledgement, on one of the last few pages of the book, to anyone who contributed to the yearbook's success. that of course my includes online sources, though not specifically broken down.

so if you see anything here that requires proper credit, the best i can do is list them here, and thank you with all my heart. i used a ton of stuff here that i wasn't able to keep track anymore: brushes, wallpapers, textures, patterns, fonts, and that sarimanok cover .... they're free online but yeah, credit is credit.

so there, drop it when you see it.

design day!

powerpoint presentation template
oh i loooove this day. mainly because uhm, napasarap ako sa pag-design ng powerpoint presentation. looki looki! i'm kinda proud of this! one of the rare times i'm asked to do something creative (visually) at work. took a lot of time on my part, isingit lang daw sa trabaho pero seriously di ko kaya isingit lang yung gantong trabaho. hahaha dahil dyan, i'm sooo behind my programming task. argh

and also because of that, napapa-isip nanaman ako. haha >XD

Kadayawan Banner

7ft (approx.) Kadayawan themed banner

yesterday the IT department held its annual RnR (rewards and recognition) program. this year it's festival themed and one task is to create a banner design for the group. i was one of those tasked to do it, and well, that's how the picture above came about.

it was really stressful. the contest was announced last week, but they took it back on friday. come monday, the contest is up again. and well, it's due the next day! without any solid planning in mind we thought of just covering the whole plank of wood with festive colors and whatnots about kadayawan (which is basically fruits and harvest and a splash of colors). so i took 6 cartolinas, drew a head on each of them, and painted with mon and ricky.

painting was the hard, well exhausting, part. we started 9am and the program will be at 2pm so the banner has to be up before that, and we still need to eat lunch yknow. so we ended up laying down all 6 heads on the floor to paint them simultaneously, one color at a time. i thought it could save us quite some bathroom trips to refill the water bowl (yknow what i mean?), and also the brushes (yknow when... basta).

for the most part it was extremely tiring! yknow... having to bend over painting for hoooours! by the time we're done my back was hurting so bad and i feel super haggard to the bones! >XS

sorry, but i was actually expecting to win. so i kindof feel bitter that we didn't haha i felt really proud (inside) of that work. it was literally on the spot. and despite the short notice it did turn out quite nice naman diba? haha grr

this morning i wake up with a really really bad muscle pain. it's funny cos all i did was paint. it can't be that physical, can it? haha my entire back, thighs and arms hurt. HAHA beats me why my body hurts like i just had a heavy workout argh. >:S

cartoon house illustration

done with photoshop cs4 using this awesome tutorial: http://vectorboom.com/load/tutorials/illustration/cartoonhouse/5-1-0-241

DIY Masquerade Mask (with template!)

finished product!
oh, i could hardly call myself crafty but this tutorial made me! our department christmas party is coming up soon with the good 'ol masquerade theme, and i didn't like the masks i saw out on the stores so i searched google for possible tutorials on how to make your own, and voila! said DIY tutorial came up! it's so simple that i didn't have to shell loads of creative juice for it, seriously! why? because the instructions are so easy, the materials very accessible, and well... the only physical requirement you need for this is to have STEADY HANDS.

this is basically just a reiteration of the abovementioned tutorial... so let's start!

What you'll need:
1. a print out of the mask template to be found here
Print it as is, no scaling needed as the image is set to the actual mask size. >:D
2. scissors/cutter and tape
3. tulle or sheer fabric
i used white tulle fabric. half a yard cost around 45 pesos at local fabric shops. i bought mine at Carolina's Glorietta. the size is too big but that's the smallest they offer so yeah. hehe
4. textile/fabric paint in tube (see pic below)
i had a hard time looking for tube paints so i settled with Pebeo Touch Deco Glitter (noir black). it costs 99.75 pesos at National Bookstore. they have a variant for fabric called Touch Textile but it wasn't available at the time so i thought this could work naman. haha
5. cling wrap
from the tutorial it says saran wrap, i didn't know what saran wrap is so judging from the pictures i thought it's just plastic cover haha. it's cling wrap pala. but we didn't have one so i just used the regular plastic cover.

ORAYT!

1. tape the template down on the table

2. put plastic cover/cling wrap over it

3. then put the tulle fabric on top, make sure it covers the entire mask.

4. using your fabric paint, in my case glitter paint...

... trace. this is where you'll need your steady hands for. whew

5. when done, let it sit and dry overnight

6. when dry, cut it out including the eye holes. if you used cling wrap, i think it would be easier to peel off the tulle from the wrap. but since i used plastic cover, i had a hard time peeling them apart so i just cut the thing with the plastic cover hehe

aaaand done. :)

my next problem is probably how to make it stick to my face (not a ribbon fan). for the purpose of that shot i  used tape. haha

announcement!

was supposed to make a simple announcement but i got carried away (i guess). >XD why do i love this work so much i'm neglecting thesis for this hahahaaay >XD

oh, this is not for announcement purposes duhh like i actually drive people to check my blog for updates haha. it's my for unoffical portfolio whatever. kindof

working for the yearbook

blaaaah because flash is hanging and photoshop isn't, i can't work properly on thesis. my wish, NEW LAPTOP. <30k on a Lenovo something running on i3! >XD

FERN Chronicles Layout

Rush is ruuuuuush!

i wonder if mam knows that i'm also doing the layout for this? i'm soooo busy ignoring our thesis. >XO come defense time, i wonder if the heads are going to criticize our program knowing that our group has been too busy (following their orders) with our extracurriculars. LOL no, not blaming anyone! i'm excited for fresh mango shake and barbecue popcorn! >XD hurray for a pretty "fast" layouting. well i just copied the previous issue hahaha >XP

photoshop, we should be engaged.

layout and design jobs

this is what ate up my entire week (kindof). below are some tarp designs for the upcoming AOG and Foundation Week!

but i actually enjoyed doing them, specially when people call it beautiful! >XD but then, i feel useless being under mam samson. i'm supposed to do computer jobs but most, if not all, of my duty hours go to layouting and doing CBS stuff. if i could only learn more about this craft, i would! >XD
