Unlimited pulutan? Why not! Vikings reveals new and exciting dishes perfect for Oktoberfest!

This Oktoberfest, eat and drink like a Viking! Get unlimited draft beer and Japanese sake this October at Vikings Luxury Buffet, the Philippines’ largest and fastest growing chain of buffet restaurants. Only P688 for the regular weekday lunch buffet and P888 for the regular dinner and weekend & holiday lunch/dinner buffet.

Vikings Train

Round up your barkada and loved ones to play the Vikings Train game, Vikings’ very own drink hack where beers are lined up with shots of sake placed on top. To a chorus of “sake bomb!” the player tips the first shot into the beer, which creates a domino effect. Diners can enjoy this game at half hour intervals, or create their own drink hacks such as mixing 7Up with their beer (YOU MUST TRY THIS), turning it into shandy. Hurry, there are some menu items that will only be offered during Oktoberfest. Each branch will feature special menus for the occasion, so call ahead to inquire!

Prito Trio
Patrons can look forward to pairings that go perfectly with their beer, like tequila-battered fish fillet with garlic aioli, cream cheese pretzels, crispy salmon skin, and beer battered onion rings.

For appetizers to start off the Oktoberfest mood, there will be beer scallop cream soup with caramelized onions, sausage stuffed peppers, and authentic German wiener schnitzel.

Binusog na Lechon
Balut
Go big or go home with carving entrées like sauerkraut and sausage paprikash, root beer-braised country style pork ribs, and German spaetzle.

Inihaw
For those who are looking for a more Pinoy flair for their Oktoberfest festivities, dishes like bagnet, grilled tuna jaw, dinakdakan, tuna salpicao and the classic Pinoy sisig.

Sisig
Kinilaw
Finish off your meal with a dessert like pumpkin cheesecake or black forest gateaux with cherry brandy liquor.

Pie Face now open at Eastwood! :D

Australia's famous oven-fresh gourmet pies has reached the Philippines and is up with their second branch! Come over at Eastwood Techno Plaza 2 if you're game for high quality handcrafted pies and more! They're open 24 hours a day, seven days and week, so there's no reason to miss it. :D

I couldn't be happier when I was invited to try Pie Face! My sister and I have been planning to open our own food business, and pies just happen to be on our top list! Oyeaaah, and so my Pie Face visit turned out to be quite a study on the current state of pies in the metro haha! We were even joking about naming our future pie shop "Mukang Pie" para corny haha ;P

It's definitely a new favorite! Their pies are made from all the best and high quality ingredients, their crust is fresh, tasty, and greatly complement the fillings. It helped a lot that we got to sit and chat with their COO Alfred Lay, who told us stories about how they started to build the brand in the Philippines, the difficulties they experienced having to source most of their raw materials abroad, and their commitment to lay out only the freshest pies to their customers. You could really feel the passion.

Pie Face offers not only savory pies but also dessert pies and award winning coffee blends. They also serve sandwiches, pastries, and a lot more! Each pie is dressed with a unique smile that tells you its flavor, here's cheat sheet:

Here's the Menu:

And the price?

Their mini pies are priced at Php 49 each and the large pies range from Php115 - 130. The small pies are surprisingly heavy, in fairness. Pair it with a cup of coffee or eat it with tomato ketchup (yes you can!), they all go well! On special days they offer certain flavors at Php 99 pesos only so I advice you to check out their Facebook page regularly to learn more about it! :D

My favorites?

Spicy Chilli Con Carne, Chunky Steak, and Chicken and Mushroom! It's packed with real meat and overflowing with flavor. Their chocolate dessert pie also got me, the density of the belgian chocolate mousse filling is freakin tasty, I had to hold off taking a second slice cos it's being shared haha.

I bought a box of these so I could share it with the family and man were they so delighted! It's the perfect pasalubong! A box of assorted mini pies costs Php 490 :)

Right now, Pie Face has two branches in the Philippines -- one at SM Mall of Asia and another at Eastwood Techno Plaza Two. They're currently expanding so expect more branches to pop up near you! This year, they're scheduled to open up in other areas like SM Megamall, SM Fairview (YEYY!), and BGC Taguig so make sure to watch out for it!

Thanks for having us Pie Face!

[Food Phase Fridays] Project Pie at Fairview Terraces

I've been meaning to try this place out ever since it opened at FT but I was either not in the mood for pizza or afraid I wouldn't have the budget for it. Turns out it's in exactly the same price range as Mad for Pizza (Php285 per head)! So one afternoon with Jeckie, ayon we tried it out! And since then, it kindof became a weekly thing... at least for a month. First time with Jeckie, second with my sister, third with the whole family. You gotta spread the love dibaaaa?

Related: [Review] Mad for Pizza: Toppings all you want!

Project Pie claims to serve artisan pizza at 285 pesos. What the hell is artisanal pizza anyway? Their doughs aren't even hand-stretched, they're balled and contained in a large tub, then mechanically pressed to fill a 9 inch pan on demand. Nothing "artsy" about the process, but it's so cool to watch haha. The crust may even come out too thin. Anyway, I'm not here to argue about whatever labels they want to describe their food chain. I'm here to share about my experience having eaten there for three times already!

Design. Build. Eat.

At Project Pie, you can either choose to order pre-designed pizza or build your own. In the three times I ate there, I always built my own, and I always almost put ALL OF THE TOPPINGS, avoiding the smelly cheeses. hehe

Herbs and veggies
Cheeses and meats
In fairness to the FT branch, they don't scrimp on toppings. They may advise to put certain toppings against each other, but all in your best interest (at least it seems). They may advise to save your succeeding cheese servings for the topmost part (cos I like my moz sandwiched) cos the crust may not cook well, but the way they tell you sounds all so professional you just gotta trust them. And we did!

Here's the outcome of our super yummy pizza indulgence! :D

I especially like my pizza topped with a loooooot of cheese, tomatoes, and herbs. The outcome is super delicious and it smells wonderful too with the oreganos, rosemary, and thyme kicking off when heated. <3

It pretty much tasted the same as my Mad for Pizza version but heyyy Project Pie is nearer to our place! haha :D

Here's a wrap up:

Pros:
- Unlimited toppings
- Drinks are affordable and come with 2 extra refills
- Great ambiance
- Efficient for CLAYGO (Clean as you go). Just throw out the paper mat and put your pizza tray above the trash bin!

Cons:
- They only serve 9" thin crust pizza
- Not a lot of selections aside from pizza

Aaaaah now I'm craving T__T

Our Wee Nam Kee Unli Hainanese Chicken Experience

Did you know that Wee Nam Kee is offering a week long Unli Hainanese Chicken (and rice, and soup) Promo this week? In celebration of their 5th year in the Philippines, they're offering unli chicken and rice for only 299 pesos (plus service charge)! yeheyy!! it's gonna run from Feb 9 - 13, 2015 and is available at all of their branches (Alabang Town Center, Glorietta 2, Serendra, Ayala Triangle Gardens, Promenade 3 Greenhills, Trinoma, and Fairview Terraces) !

I was actually thinking they're just trying to make up for lost income due to the days BIR closed down their shops. Then again, whatever the real reason is... unli chicken is unli chicken! and coming from my favorite chinese restaurant, this promo got me all sorts of excited (and happy that they're back in business too!)!!! >XD

jeckie and i got to try it yesterday. it was kindof a reward for myself for overcoming stage fright from the leadership conference i spoke to yesterday (woohooo achievement unlocked! blog post soon!). we dined at their fairview terraces branch at around 4:30pm, and was glad that there weren't a lot of people yet! <3

Wee Nam Kee serves the realest chickest i've ever tasted. ano raw. haha i've had it with breaded and glazed chicken, and they're all but tasty on the inside. WNK's hainanese chickens aren't overly seasoned (specially the steamed one) so you get to savor its authentic flavor. <3

their hainaneese rice is to die for. it's cooked from chicken stock so it's got this chicken broth flavor to it that's really good. a cup of this regularly cost 50 pesos kamown. haha they only serve this by the cup and not in bowls or platters. they also don't serve plain rice. oha. that's a signature!

but honestly, my favorite dish from WNK isn't really part of their menu, they're CONDIMENTS!!

their three condiments (dark soya sauce, chili sauce, and pounded ginger) are what keeps me coming back over and over and over. actually, just the soy sauce and ginger hehe. every time i wait for my food to be served, i make myself a generous mix of ginger and soy sauce, and eat em! sorry, pinapapak ko lang sila. super solve na ko! omnomnom btw, you can ask to take out their condiments too!

So was the promo sulit?

YES! even though i only ate a single serving of rice and steamed chicken (cos busog na agad ako), jeckie downed 6 servings of chicken, and 2 cups of rice naman!haha well, i had 3 cups of soup din pala, cos... soup!

you should try it too! especially if you love their chicken and rice! <3

gotta love Wee Nam Kee <3

[Review] Mad for Pizza: Toppings all you want!

a month back jeckie and i dined in this relatively new pizza parlour around Tomas Morato, which offers a very enticing option for food lovers and pizza lovers alike: CHOOSE YOUR OWN TOPPINGS. talk about Project Pie (which i haven't tried yet haha)! but it's not just that, it's TOPPINGS ALL YOU WANT too! and i meant standing in front of a buffet of toppings and commanding your personal pizza maker to put whatever you like, in whatever amount! cool beans.

aside for that signature offering they also serve an array of comfort foods like pasta, rice dishes, nachos, desserts, and drinks, so if you're not really into the entire DIY pizza craze, you can still enjoy the restaurant's other offerings. :)

Here's the menu :)

anyway, we came for the pizza so here it goes!

for only 285 pesos you get a customized 9 inch pizza with your choice of dough, sauce, and toppings! here's how our first visit went (yessss because i was craving so much for it that we had to try it for the second time haha!)

How to order your toppings all you want pizza!

3 steps only!

Step 1: Choose your dough

you start by ordering the type of thin crust dough you want, they have classic, herb, garlic parmesan, and spinach doughs.

Step 2: Choose your sauce

take your pick of the sauce. they serve house pizza, roasted garlic alfredo, frio diablo, and barbecue sauce. after deciding on those, they'll prepare your dough and sauce, then call you at the front to finally load your toppings on! :)

then comes the good part!

Step 3: Choose all the toppings you want!

They offer a super wide range of quality toppings, you'll go crazy about the possibilities!

on my first visit i chose garlic parmesan dough, and roasted garlic alfredo sauce. then i went crazy with the toppings!

i didn't take tabs on what i put in, but i asked for a lot of mozzarella, green and red bell peppers, all those sausages, chicken, garlic, beef, all the green herbs, olives, mushrooms, lots of tomatoes, bacon, parmesan, and another hefty loot of mozzarella. i had every intention to make this piece worthy of the restaurant's claim of toppings all you want so i didn't hold back! >XD

and voila! this was how my pizza looked before it was sent off to the oven. :)

and this one below was jeckie's pizza!

he had more mozzarella, a handful of cream cheese, lots of beef, bacon, steak slices, sausages, tomatoes, etc. his pizza was almost all meat and no greens at all. a carnivore's heaven, yes. and i must admit, his pizza looks taller than mine! hahaha i was so impressed! he was the first one to be called in front so i watched him give orders on what to put, how much to put, and blah. you might think it's nakakahiya that we're putting so much on our doughs, but TIP #1: DON'T BE! the pizza makers were also very generous and obedient so there's no room for guilt! hahaha >XD

we waited almost 30 minutes for our freshly baked oven pizza to arrive, but we didn't complain cos we knew we had to let every mass of that pizza cook evenly! and when it came...

foodgasm!

My pizzaaaaaaa

it smelled good, and the toppings towered over the crispy thin crust beautifully like some over garnished herb pizza! best of all, it also tasted awesome! >XD jeckie didn't like it though cos it's screaming herbs but i super duper love it! the smell of rosemary is intoxicating!

on the other hand, here was jeckie's super flavorful pizza!

Tips for your enjoyment, and the difference with our SECOND VISIT
i already gave you Tip #1 above which basically means don't be shy if you think you're putting too much on your dough. as long as you believe it's going to make your pizza experience more awesome, then go for it!

here's my Tip #2, and i realized this during our second visit. if you can, always request to do your pizza hands-on. that way you get to experience what we did, which is to choose all the toppings we want, in WHATEVER AMOUNT. #sugapaLungs

on our second visit which was 2 weeks after our first , we noticed they're giving out a checklist of toppings to customers. you can still opt to check everything you want, but by submitting to the checklist mode, you lose your chance to control the amount of your toppings on your pizza haha. this may be convenient to those who didn't want to stand up though! but i think it's their way of controlling their toppings inventory, and also to save preparation time.

sooo, if you're not really hungrybods like us. the checklist will still give you an equally great experience!

so on that day, we were offered the checklist but we declined and asked if we could still go in front to choose our toppings live, and we did! so there you go! what i'm telling is, they now offer 2 ways to prepare your pizza, via checklist and via uhm, live selection of toppings?

the difference...

i have pretty much the same preference in toppings so i picked the same stuff, but i noticed that they were really controlling the portions now. i asked for the usual rounds of mozzarella but my pizza maker remarked that it's going to be too salty already! aw! but that didn't stop me, sabi ko na lang, i like it salty! hahaha >XD

My verdict
even with their apparent efforts in controlling their inventory of toppings, i would say it's still worth the 285 pesos we paid for! i don't want them to go out of business just because some people couldn't control their hungry eyes (takaw tingin represent!) or simply wanted to stretch their marketing claim *ouch*. i have yet to bring my sister here cos this is her kind of food coma! >XD

magka-ganun man. YOU SHOULD TRY THIS OUT. i'm putting this review under the Must Try! category because that's where i put my awesome food finds!

Big B Burgers: a new favorite!

forget diet! enter Big B Burgers, a newly opened burger joint around Maginhawa, which serves one of the best and most unique (so far!) burgers i've ever tried.

osya sige, go

item #1: The BIG B Burger (Php 99)

the major selling point. quarter pound. 50-50 beef x bacon. now drool.

on first look, it may seem like your usual quarter pounder boasting with a thick patty, and well, stabbed for presentation. but this one's different! it has a very curious sauce, haha, i wondered at first about those dark strips swimming in the mayo. i thought it was nori (srsly! nori in a burger? wooh), but when i took a bite... oooooooh basil (never heard? read: pesto). aaand it's called the AWESOME SAUCE, for the obvious reason that the owners probably think it's awesome, and i do too, so let's not argue about that.

here's the Awesome Sauce, which you dispense in what looks like a sauce gun, or something. cool beans huh. >BD i gathered it's basil, mayo, and sour cream... but that's just me. haven't asked.

okay. now let me rave about the patty. IT'S AWESOME. IT'S BACON BACON BACON ALL OVER. i loooove it. and i'm sure you'll love it too. my golly, writing about it right now makes me crave!

i try not to overstate, but this burger is definitely a must try.

item #2: Pink Potion (Php 20)

now this is pretty common. but what's unique about this is the way it is served! they give you a glass bottle almost filled with cold water, then give you a potion bottle filled with concentrated pink lemonade, then they pour it on the water. voila! the pink potion!

they also serve Pink Potion w/ feelings (Php 35). yes, haha, that's not a typo. that's soda (7-up?) instead of water. haha the feels nga naman.

item #3: Poutine ng Ama Mo (Php 120)

your regular fries swimming in gravy, topped with crabsticks, mozarella (technically it's under the fries but yeah), and some herb garnish (i don't really remember the taste). the "Ama Mo" version is 200g, there's also an "Ina Mo" version which is basically the same, only a hundred grams shy.

i liked this one cos it's different, but the first time it was served, the mozarella hasn't melted well yet. so there's this awkward block of cheese in our fries that i didn't enjoy. haha but on our second visit (the burger is heavily beckoning, i'm sorry!) the food was well tempered so the mozarella was gooey and yummy and all over our fries! yeyy!

over all, it's a great place to try out! specially for those who love burgers and find pure beef patties rather mainstream already (as if 100% pure beef patties ever run out of style!). if you want a new take on yer patties, Big B Burgers is the place to be!

The Menu

so far they have these, zoom to read.

Random Stuff

the area is rather small and it's not airconditioned ha, it can only probably sit around 12 people, so you might wanna take-out (+ Php 5).

the walls are plastered with all sorts of witty notes and stuff. hahaha

the owners are very friendly and accommodating, specially the lady owner who's always so gay and perky! >XD

and loook, they offer plastic gloves to those who don't want to mess their hands with the burger. sosyalin. haha!

The Big Busog Card

oh, they have an ongoing loyalty promo. be sure to get one of their Big Busog Cards cards at the bar counter and have em stamped with every burger purchase! Get 10 qtr, 5 half, or 3 one pound burgers and your next one is FREE!
